A faculty member in 91Ƭ’s marketing department was selected as an inaugural inductee into the National Conference in Sales Management (NCSM) Hall of Fame.
Michael Williams, professor of marketing and the American Floral Services chair in marketing in OCU’s Meinders School of Business, will be formally honored during the “40 Years of NCSM Celebration” in Norfolk, Virginia, in March. The recognition follows a unanimous approval of his nomination by the NCSM board of directors.
The NCSM Hall of Fame was established to recognize individuals who have made a lasting and meaningful impact on the selling and sales management field. Inductees are chosen based on a rigorous set of criteria, including long-term service to the NCSM, sustained thought leadership and significant contributions to the broader sales discipline.
With 28 years of professional business experience combined with a prolific academic tenure, Williams is a recognized authority on marketing performance, buyer-seller interactions and customer development. His contributions to the field include:
- Prolific scholarship: Author of 64 peer-reviewed publications and 14 textbooks, with research featured in the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management and the Journal of Business Research.
- Grant success: Generated more than $3.2 million in funded research grants, including two multiyear National Science Foundation grants.
- Previous accolades: Recipient of the Marvin Jolson Award for Best Contribution to Selling and Sales Management Practice and the Mu Kappa Tau national honor society’s lifetime achievement award.
Williams works to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice, mentoring students from undergraduate to graduate levels.
Following this year’s ceremony, the hall of fame will induct new members every five years at future bi-decade celebration conferences. Inductees will be featured permanently on the NCSM website as a testament to their influence on the sales and sales management disciplines.
